Almost visiting Iran, czyli jak nam się nie udało pojechać do Iranu ;)

We were planning our Iranian trip for a long time. We have heard so many amazing stories from other people who have travelled there and we decided to see it for ourselves. We wanted to see the architecture of the ancient cities, but most of all we wanted to meet the people and see whether the reality on the ground is like the stories that we are being fed in the West. But despite our clear and innocent intentions we were refused the Iranian visa. Actually, J. was refused. They told me that I could go, but there are some problems with my husband. Someone in Teheran decided that J. has a dual citizenship and even if he does not, Australians cannot be trusted. Very curious. Why can Poles be trusted? We also thoughtlessly follow Americans into every war they start, so I cannot really see their point. Anyway, the situation over there is 'a bit' tense right now, so it is probably better that we did not go. And to be honest, I am really glad that we ended up in Sri Lanka instead of Iran ;) So I can only thank the Iranian authorities for their refusal ;)

Długo planowaliśmy naszą irańską wyprawę. Tyle niesamowitych historii usłyszeliśmy od ludzi, którzy tam byli, że postanowiliśmy zobaczyć to wszystko na własne oczy. Chcieliśmy się zachwycić starożytnymi miastami i bogactwem kulturowym, ale przede wszystkim chcieliśmy spotkać i porozmawiać z ludźmi, i zobaczyć, czy diabeł jest rzeczywiście taki straszny, jak go malują na zachodzie. Ale niestety, mimo naszych czystych i niewinnych zamiarów, odmówiono nam wizy. A dokładniej, J-owi odmówiono wizy. W ambasadzie powiedzieli mi, że ja moge jechać, ale są jakieś problemy z wizą mojego męża. Ktoś w Teheranie podejrzewał, że J. ma dwie narodowości, a nawet jeśli ich nie ma, to już sam Australijski paszport wystarczy, aby mu odmówić. Australijczykom najwyraźniej nie można ufać. Ale dlaczego Polakom niby można? Przecież tak samo bezmyślnie, jak i Australijczycy, podążamy za Amerkanami na każdą wojnę, którą rozpętają. Trudno. Widać nie dane nam było wybrać się do Iranu. A biorąc pod uwagę obecne napięcie w relacjach Iran-Ameryka i Iran-Europa, to pewnie nawet lepiej, że nie pojechaliśmy. I szczerze mówiąc, to bardzo się cieszę, że zamiast w Iranie wylądowaliśmy na Sri Lance :) 

Still, we did manage to see a little bit of Iran....

No i jakby nie było, udało nam się zobaczyć odrobinę Iranu....
